Our Clan Association was formed in 1978 and we have one of the largest memberships of our clan in the world. Our aims are to:

  • Acknowledge in practice the spirit of our ancient motto: “Dum Spiro Spero” (While I breathe I hope)
  • Promote interest in the Clan and foster a spirit of kin and fellowship.
  • Maintain contact with members.
  • Collect and preserve the Clan’s history and traditions.
  • Assist members tracing their family tree.
  • Keep contact with Clan Associations throughout the World. (Presently Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK/Scotland and U.S.A.)
  • To achieve these aims we publish an interesting and informative newsletter three times a year, and we hold three major clan gatherings each year in Melbourne and one in Sydney and attend a number of Highland Gathering events around Australia. Financial membership also provides access to our extensive Mac/McLennan family history database. We are happy to provide further information and welcome applications for membership.

Donald McLennan from Gairloch – lived at Wingham, NSW
The Donald McLennan referred to on the headstone above was born in Gairloch on the Scottish west coast on 24 November 1807. He lived at Tighnafeline – right alongside the “Marnoo McLennans” of NW Victoria – just a few houses away. Donald and his wife Mary (nee McKenzie) arrived in Australia on the “William Miles” in 1855 with two children. They had at least six more children, mostly near Wingham on the Manning. He is ID number i2105 in our Clan database. It would be interesting to compare DNA of Donald’s descendants with the “Marnoo” descendants. We would be very interested to hear from any descendants of Donald and Mary – famhist (at) clanmaclennan-worldwide.com. More about Donald and Mary at http://www.clanmaclennan-worldwide.com/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I2105&tree=tree101
