Scotland Clan Committee
Chairman: Alistair MacLennan
I am the youngest of five children from Lossiemouth in Moray. I was in the army for 5 years and have been in the Scottish Prison Service for 34 years. I volunteered?? for Chair in 2013 and helped organise the 2014 Homecoming and Gathering events. I am an amateur Ornithologist, and enjoy the outdoors and am totally passionate about Rugby. In 2017 Sheila and I vacationed in Australia where we renewed a lot of friendships and made many new ones. We also met family we had never met before. I am looking forward to meeting new friends and welcoming back old ones this July. My hopes are that everyone has,( at least), as good a time as we did four years ago. I also hope that everyone who attends will thoroughly enjoy themselves, meet new friends and further enhance old ones.
Secretary: Sheila MacLennan
My name is Sheila and I am married to Alistair the chairman of the Scottish Committee. I became the Secretary of Clan Scotland a couple of years ago after indicating I might help out if needed. I enjoy researching my family history and I am able to help/ research anyone looking for their Scottish Ancestors. I am looking forward to meeting other clan members/friends at our next Clan Gathering in 2018.
Now that the gathering programme has gone live I would like to encourage you to check out the Current Programme which is on our Scotland face book page and our Clan Worldwide website. We are trying to cater for all tastes and ages, from ceilidh, trips to places of interest, genealogy, formal dinner, and to mark the year of Young people. Please check this out and send in your booking form so we can make sure that this 40th Anniversary gathering is one to remember. The committee are looking forward to meeting you all whether you have been to previous gatherings or your first one. If you have anyone who has a birthday or anniversary while you are here please let me know, and perhaps we can organise a little something for them. If you have any questions or require any more information please contact me on the above e-mail address.
Treasurer: Kirsteen Eckersley
Kirsteen is the elder sister to Chief Ruairidh and has been involved in the Clan MacLennan all of her life. Her childhood memories are of her parents entertaining MacLennans from throughout the world in their homes in Ullapool and then Dores. Kirsteen is married to James Eckersley and they have 3 boys, Charles, George and Donald. Over the past 10 years Kirsteen’s main role in the Clan was to help Ruairidh organise the International Clan Gatherings.
With the emergence of a strong Scottish Committee, Kirsteen is now Treasurer and a key figure in organising our annual get together in Inverness. In July each year we attend the Inverness Highland Games and host a table in the Clan Tent. We take the opportunity to have a wee ceilidh and BBQ too.
I’ve been involved with Clan MacLennan ever since I can remember. My father, the late James MacLennan, read of the late Chief Ronald’ s progress in the P&J newspaper, while he was establishing his right to be Clan chief and as a result they corresponded for many years throughout the 1960’s and 70’s .
There were many get-togethers, we attended the wonderful occasion of Chief Ronald’s inauguration in 1978 , my Dad carrying the halberd while I carried our Chief’s bonnet..
With my grandfather James (Jimmy Mac) previously being Clan president and my mother an editor of the Clan newsletter it’s safe to say there was never really any question that I wouldn’t become involved in the Scottish committee. I’ve been a junior member of the committee since the late 90’s!
I help maintain our online presence in running our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
